[Elayne|Elayne Trakand] rides [Fireheart] into the Queen's Stableyard on the east side of the [Royal Palace]. [Caseille|Caseille Raskovni] and the [Queen's Guards|Caemlyn] follow. Despite all the [channelers|True Source] in the palace she can sense no use of %%ot [saidar|Said]%%. The huge use of the [One Power] to the west has everyone cowed. She thinks [Arymilla|Arymilla Marne] must be terrified by all the stories of [channelers|True Source] in the [Royal Palace]. [Caseille|Caseille Raskovni] assigns new guards to [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] including [Deni|Deni Colford] and [Rasoria|Rasoria Domanche]. 

[Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] arrives as [Aviendha] comes through the gateway on [Siswai]. [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] reports that [Dyelin|Dyelin Taravin] and [Reanne Corly] have not returned from their mission. They left days before [Arymilla|Arymilla Marne]'s armies arrived to work up support for [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] among undecided Houses. Of four hundred noble Houses in [Andor] only nineteen are strong enough to be important. [Matherin|Andor] and the others she visited are weak ones. Normally succession is straightforward. [Mantear|Andor] only lost the throne to [Trakand|Andor] when [Mordrellen Mantear] died because [Tigraine|Tigraine Mantear] had disappeared. A queen is determined when ten of the nineteen Houses agree. So far, [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] only has [Trakand|Andor] and [Taravin|Andor] locked. [Dyelin|Dyelin Taravin] has promised [Carand|Andor], [Coelan|Andor], [Renshar|Andor], [Norwelyn|Andor], [Pendar|Andor] and [Traemane|Andor], but the first three really want [Dyelin|Dyelin Taravin] and the latter three are keeping quiet. With [Elenia|Elenia Sarand] and [Naean|Naean Arawn], [Arymilla|Arymilla Marne] has six Houses solidly behind her. 

As they enter the palace, [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] reports that something is going on. [Sumeko|Sumeko Karistovan] fainted while she was talking and the [Windfinders|Sea Folk] and [Kin] are agitated. They run into [Vandene|Vandene Namelle] with [Careane|Careane Fransi], [Sareitha|Sareitha Tomares] and [Merilille|Merilille Ceandevin]. [Vandene|Vandene Namelle] has lost weight since [Adeleas|Adeleas Namelle] died. [Vandene|Vandene Namelle] goes about her business followed by two [novices], [Kirstian|Kirstian Chalwin] and [Zarya|Zarya Alkaese]. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] assures the other three that there is nothing they can do about the [channeling|True Source]. [Merilille|Merilille Ceandevin] has worn the shawl over a hundred years and [Careane|Careane Fransi] over fifty, but they defer to [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] because they are all only average strength. [Careane|Careane Fransi] dislikes [Aviendha], considering her a [wilder]. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] is convinced that one of the three sisters is the murderer. 

Captain [Doilin Mellar|Daved Hanlon] arrives. [Sareitha|Sareitha Tomares] approves of him but the other two dislike him.[1] He led a sortie to rescue eighty of Lord [Luan|Luan Norwelyn]'s men led by [Jurad Accan] when they were attacked by Lord [Nasin|Nasin Caeren]'s forces. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] chastises him for bringing [Luan|Luan Norwelyn]'s armsmen into the city because he has not yet declared for her. She orders him to spend his time having those men watched. She then dismisses them all and goes to have a hot bath. She thinks that she always pays her debts and helps her friends pay theirs.
