[Karede|Furyk Karede] is in his room in [The Wandering Woman] with his servant [Ajimbura]. He has done little this morning beyond saying his devotions to the [Empress]. He wears his robe in Imperial Green.[1] There are lots of rats around.[2] [Ajimbura] is a tribesman from [Kaensada|Seanchan], a barely civilized part of the empire. [Karede|Furyk Karede] has been promoted to banner-general for his limited success against the [Asha'man]. They are still concerned about the [Aes Sedai]'s unknown weapon.[3] [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] vanished nine nights ago. She has disappeared twice before as part of her own political maneuverings. He wonders if she fell victim to the [Lady of the Shadows|Seanchan]. Captain [Musenge] commands her personal bodyguard. The [Seeker|Almurat Mor] enters and [Karede|Furyk Karede] covers the map of [Tar Valon] he has been studying. They are part of Lord [Yulan|Abaldar Yulan]'s plans.[3] The [Seeker|Almurat Mor]'s name is [Almurat Mor]. His last name indicates his ancestors came over with [Luthair Paendrag|Luthair Paendrag Mondwin]. Someone has started a rumor of a girl who looks like [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] extorting gold and jewelry from merchants.[4] [Anath|semirhage] is in seclusion. [Suroth|Suroth Sabelle Meldarath] is distraught. The [Seeker|Almurat Mor] has a detailed dossier on [Karede|Furyk Karede]. He is forty-two and was born the property of [Jalid Magonine] in [Ancarid|Seanchan (Country)]. He distinguished himself at the [Muyami|Seanchan (Country)] Uprising and the [Jianmin|Seanchan (Country)] Incident. He served as bodyguard to the [Empress] until chosen to accompany High Lord [Turak|Turak Aladon] and the %%ot [Hailene|Seanchan (People)]%%. In particular, he served as bodyguard to [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] and kept a doll of hers named [Emela|Fictional Characters] for ten years until it was lost in a fire at [Sohima|Seanchan (Country)]. He has two living sons in the [Deathwatch Guard|Seanchan (People)]; his wife [Kalia|Kalia Karede] is dead. The [Seeker|Almurat Mor] then tells him that on the same night as [Tylin|Tylin Quintara]'s death and [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag]'s disappearance, two %%ot [damane|Seanchan (People)]%%[5] disappeared as well as [Tylin|Tylin Quintara]'s pet, [Thom|Thom Merrilin] and some soldiers. All were known to consort with [Aes Sedai]. Lady [Egeanin Tamarath] took the %%ot [damane|Seanchan (People)]%%. The [Seeker|Almurat Mor] suspects that [Aes Sedai] kidnapped [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] and that [Suroth|Suroth Sabelle Meldarath] is in league with them. When [Egeanin|Egeanin Tamarath] left the city gates she was heading north and [Jehannah] was mentioned in the palace stables. However, the [Seeker|Almurat Mor] thinks these were misdirections. The [Seeker|Almurat Mor] leaves, then [Karede|Furyk Karede] calls for [Ajimbura] and sends him with a message to Captain [Musenge].

Afternoon the following day [Karede|Furyk Karede] crosses the harbor to the [Rahad] and rides up the [Illian Road|Ebou Dar] on his horse [Aldazar].[6] Outside of town he meets [Ajimbura] who leads him to Captain [Musenge|musenge]. He has a hundred of the [Deathwatch Guard|Seanchan (People)] and twenty [Ogier] [Gardeners|Ogier]. The First Gardener is [Hartha]. There are also half a dozen %%ot [damane|Seanchan (People)]%% and %%ot [sul'dam|Seanchan (People)]%% including [Melitene], [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag]'s personal %%ot [der'sul'dam|Seanchan (People)]%%. One of the %%ot [damane|Seanchan (People)]%% is [Mylen|Sheraine Caminelle]. They set out to hunt down [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag]'s kidnappers.[7]
