As [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Aram] ride northeast our to camp, their horses rear and shy. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] smells the scent from his dream, reminiscent of burned sulfur, and knows it is [Darkhound]. They find huge paw prints in stone confirming them. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] sends [Aram] to warn [Dannil|Dannil Lewin] and the others, then follows the trail. He remembers that [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] had to use [balefire|Weaves#b] to stop the [Darkhound] in [Illian|Illian (Country)]. The trail circles the whole camp. They came from the north, circled the camp and headed south.[1] Back at his starting place, a party of fifty or sixty is waiting including [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] and her maid,[2] [Carelle], [Masuri|Masuri Sokawa] and [Annoura|Annoura Larisen]. [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] brings [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] a basket with breakfast. Hidden in it is a note that [Gendar|gendar] and [Santes|santes] stole from [Masema|Masema Dagar]'s desk. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] now worries that the two thief-catchers know about [Haviar|haviar] and [Nerion|nerion], which would make it risky for [Balwer|Sebban Balwer] to set [Medore|Medore Damara] on [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] and [Annoura|Annoura Larisen]. The letter says that the bearer is under the personal protection of High Lady [Suroth Sabelle Meldarath|../characters/s/suroth] of [Asinbayar|../geography/seanchan/asinbayar/index] and [Barsabba|../geography/seanchan/index]. [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] sent her thief-catchers back with the last of her [Tunaighan|../geography/other] wine but they have not yet returned. [Annoura|Annoura Larisen] advised that she destroy the note.[3] [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] keeps it. He tells her that [Annoura|Annoura Larisen] and [Masuri|Masuri Sokawa] have been meeting with [Masema|Masema Dagar]. [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] is worried and says that she will look into it. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] then rides over to point out the [Darkhound] tracks.
