The next day [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] rides [Pips] next to [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] on [Akein]. [Selucia] is with them on a new horse.[1] [Metwyn] drives the [Aes Sedai] wagon. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] sees ravens fly by and tells [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] they could be spies for the [Dark One|ShaiTan]. [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] thinks it is a children's tale and asks if [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] believes that, if you sleep on [Old Hob|ShaiTan]'s Hill under a full moon, the snakes will give you true answers to three questions, or that foxes steal people's skins and take the nourishment from food so you can starve to death while eating your fill? [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is startled at these references to the [Aelfinn|Finn] and [Eelfinn|Finn]. [Old Hob|ShaiTan], %%ot [Caisen Hob|ShaiTan]%%, was a name for the [Dark One|ShaiTan] in [Shandalle] where [Artur Hawkwing|Artur Paendrag Tanreall] was born. 

[Mat|Matrim Cauthon] recalls [Setalle|Setalle Anan] and [Egeanin|Egeanin Tamarath] telling him [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] was trained from birth in leadership and intrigue. He cannot figure out what she wants with him. 

They come to an odd looking village and see a peddler driving his wagon through. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] recognizes the houses as ancient [Shiotan|Shiota] construction. The village starts to melt into the ground. The peddler and his horses scream as they sink into the ground as well. Soon nothing is left but the road. [Teslyn|Teslyn Baradon], [Edesina|Edesina Azzedin], [Joline|Joline Maza], [Blaeric|Blaeric Negina] and [Fen|Fen Mizar] examine the area but find nothing. People are scared to continue. [Luca|Valan Luca] argues that they should continue to [Lugard] but most want to go back to [Ebou Dar], [Illian|Illian (Country)] or somewhere west. [Thom|Thom Merrilin], [Juilin|Juilin Sandar], [Amathera|Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault], [Noal|Noal Charin] and [Olver] join [Mat|Matrim Cauthon]. [Thom|Thom Merrilin] bets [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] that [Luca|Valan Luca] will convince the circus to continue to [Lugard] and he wins. [Luca|Valan Luca] and [Latelle|latelle] lead the troupe forward at a gallop. [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag] says the dead walking is a sign of [Tarmon Gai'don|Creator]. 

That evening [Lopin] and [Nerim] serve dinner but no one eats much and [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] sends them to join [Harnan] and the [Redarms|Band of the Red Hand]. [Domon|Bayle Domon] and [Egeanin|Egeanin Tamarath] invite [Juilin|Juilin Sandar] and [Amathera|Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault] to their tent for a drink. They are all changing, becoming more accepting. 

[Thom|Thom Merrilin] reads his letter from [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred][2] and [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] finally asks him about it. The letter says [Thom|Thom Merrilin] should show it to [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] only when he asks. She writes that she will confront [Lanfear] shortly but she will not die. [Thom|Thom Merrilin], [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] and one other[3] must try to rescue her. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] knows the way. She wishes the best for [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara]. Remember the game of [Snakes and Foxes|Finn]. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is not sure; he saw the [twisted red doorway|Twisted Red Doorway] melt. [Olver] says [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] told him the [Tower of Ghenjei] is a way to the [Aelfinn|Finn] and [Eelfinn|Finn]. Draw the [Snakes and Foxes|Finn] sign on it with a bronze knife to open the door. [Noal|Noal Charin] says [Jain Farstrider|Jain Charin] thought it was on the [Shadow Coast]. He describes it and [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] recognizes the description as the tower he saw after fleeing [Shadar Logoth|Aridhol (City)]. He says [Domon|Bayle Domon] can lead them there. He warns them that the [Aelfinn|Finn] and [Eelfinn|Finn] know what is in his mind and tells them the whole story. [Noal|Noal Charin] offers to be their third. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] agrees to go and the final set of dice in his head stop.
