[Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] has been waiting for that boat and performing in [Valan Luca]'s circus for three days. She has had strange dreams of [Egwene|Egwene alVere]. [Clarine|Clarine Anhill] has made her a brilliant blue dress to go with the red. She often quarrels with [Elayne|Elayne Trakand]. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] mentioned that she dreamed of [Egwene|Egwene alVere], too, and they compare notes. In their dreams, [Egwene|Egwene alVere] told them that [Rand|Rand alThor] won a great victory at [Cairhien|Cairhien (Country)] yesterday and that [Sammael] attacked him. She recognized the [Dragon Scepter] as [Seanchan|Seanchan (People)] work. They both worry about visiting %%ot [Tel'aran'rhiod|TelAranRhiod]%% with [Moghedien] still around. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] will go to the [Heart of the Stone|Stone of Tear] tonight to see if [Egwene|Egwene alVere] is there, then come right back. 

[Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] enters. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] snipes at her, comparing her to [Calle Coplin]. [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] then tells [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] about [Mathera] who fell head over heels over [Zheres], the first man to kiss her. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] breaks it up citing a [Lini|Lini Eltring] saying about being catty. [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] tells them that [Thom|Thom Merrilin] and [Juilin|Juilin Sandar] are back from [Samara]. Neither of the girls knew they left. 

They all go outside. The performers including [Cerandin], [Petra|Petra Anhill], [Clarine|Clarine Anhill], [Brugh Chavana] and [Taeric Chavana] are doing their morning chores. There is a new acrobat act, the six Murasaka sisters that [Luca|Valan Luca] hired away from [Sillia Cerano]. Two of them are [Andaya Murasaka] and [Kuan Murasaka]. They find [Thom|Thom Merrilin] and [Juilin|Juilin Sandar] a bit battered. The men report that there are riots in [Samara]. [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] notes that there is smoke coming from the town. 

[Uno|Uno Nomesta] arrives with news that there is a riverboat at [Samara], but the [Dragonsworn] are fighting [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] and are invading [Amadicia]. Apparently the [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] and [Masema|Masema Dagar]'s forces fighting over the boat precipitated it all. [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] tries to flatter [Uno|Uno Nomesta] reminding him of the valor of the [Borderlands] at [Enkara|Other History] and [Soralle Step].[1] 

[Galad|Galad Damodred] then arrives. [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] currently hold the boat and [Galad|Galad Damodred] has paid their passage. [Valan Luca] arrives and tells the performers to break camp immediately. [Chin Akima] has already been beheaded and [Sillia Cerano] flogged. He then takes [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] aside and tells her that he wants her to marry him. She declines, thinking of [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran]. He says he will find her again and next time she will choose him.[2]

[Elayne|Elayne Trakand] and [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] find [Cerandin] tending her %%ot [s'redit|Elephants]%%. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] tells her they are leaving and asks her to come with them. [Cerandin] declines saying the boat cannot take [Mer|Elephants], [Sanit|Elephants] and [Nerin|Elephants] and she will not leave them behind. She says %%ot [s'redit|Elephants]%% are better in battle than %%ot [lopar]%% or %%ot [grolm]%%. [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] tells [Cerandin] who she really is, but [Cerandin] does not believe her. She suggests that [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] might become an %%ot [asa|Seanchan (People)]%% or concubine. [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] does not believe her either.[3] Furious, [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] stalks away.
