[Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] is on his horse [Challenge] with [Jisao|Jisao Hamora], [Rajar] and fifty other [Younglings]. He is watching the sunset though the unnatural clouds. The clouds are higher than [Dragonmount].[1] They are scouting [Gareth Bryne]'s soldiers in a small village. The soldiers are searching villages, looking for the [Younglings] who have been harassing them per [Elaida|Elaida do Avriny aRoihan]'s orders.[2] [Jisao|Jisao Hamora] wants to send in [Rodic]'s squad to take the soldiers, but [Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] is cautious because they are too close to their base in [Dorlan]. Thinking of facing [Bryne|Gareth Bryne], his mentor, brings up his memory of killing [Hammar] and [Coulin] and the nightmare of [Dumai's Wells|Dumais Wells]. He does not understand why [Bryne|Gareth Bryne] is here instead of in [Caemlyn] protecting [Elayne|Elayne Trakand]. [Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] struggles with his loyalties to [Egwene|Egwene alVere], [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] and the [White Tower]. There are only three hundred [Younglings]. They still survive against 50,000 troops only because [Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] is so familiar with [Bryne|Gareth Bryne]'s tactics. [Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] wishes he could see the sun again.
