[Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] and [Egwene|Egwene alVere] enter the [Heart of the Stone|Stone of Tear] which is filled with nobles waiting for [Rand|Rand alThor]. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] is irritated that [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] is missing.[2] She thinks [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] will have him only if she dies.[3] Lady [Leitha|leitha] looks scornfully at [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred], but [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] stares her into submission. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] hopes [Rand|Rand alThor] has not heard of the troubles in the [Two Rivers], and if he has, that he does not run off there.[4] She is glad that [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] are out of the way and wonders if they will confirm her suspicions about [Windfinders|Sea Folk].[5] She thinks [Tanchico] is a waste of time, but [Thom|Thom Merrilin] will help them if there is any trouble.[6] Her letters to [Siuan|Siuan Sanche] about [Mazrim Taim] should take care of the more likely danger.[7] She wishes [Egwene|Egwene alVere] had gone with them, but thinks that [Aviendha] will take care of her in the [Aiel Waste]. She really was astounded by the letter from the [Wise Ones|Aiel] but she plans to mainly ignore it.[8] Her main concern is to have no one influencing [Rand|Rand alThor] except herself. She sees [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] across the room and thinks how difficult he is to keep track of. She and [Egwene|Egwene alVere] both miss [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and wonder where he is. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] thinks he has too strong a sense of duty to leave, but she may have to have a talk with [Faile|Zarine Bashere] if she influences him too much.[9] 

[Rand|Rand alThor] enters carrying %%ot [Callandor]%% followed by a hundred [Aiel]. [Rhuarc] leads them. [Rand|Rand alThor] announces that High Lord [Sunamon|Sunamon Haellin] has guaranteed a treaty with [Mayene] with his life. Ships now will be available to carry grain to [Illian|Illian (Country)].[10] He orders the army of [Tear|Tear (Country)] to march north to [Cairhien|Cairhien (Country)]. High Lord [Meilan|Meilan Mendiana] will command. Under him will be High Lords [Gueyam], [Aracome], [Hearne], [Maraconn] and [Simaan]. The force will be financed by High Lord [Torean|Torean Andiama] who will also accompany them. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] is impressed that [Rand|Rand alThor] knew of the seven most dangerous schemes against him. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] still thinks he should attack [Sammael] in [Illian|Illian (Country)] and wonders if [Lanfear] influenced him. [Rand|Rand alThor] tells them their job will be to restore order. He will send High Lady [Alteima] along to help feed the hungry. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] thinks this is a mistake as she is the most dangerous of the High Lords. Then [Rand|Rand alThor] announces that she should leave her husband, High Lord [Tedosian], behind and have High Lady [Estanda] care for him. [Alteima] faints.[11] Lord [Estean|Estean Andiama], [Torean|Torean Andiama]'s son, shouts for [Rand|Rand alThor] as their leader, but [Rand|Rand alThor] then says he is going away. He thrusts %%ot [Callandor]%% into the floor of the [Heart of the Stone|Stone of Tear] and the whole [Stone of Tear] rings and shakes.[12] He tells the audience to look on it and remember that he will return for it. [Rand|Rand alThor] turns and leaves. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] and [Egwene|Egwene alVere] follow and catch up to him. [Rand|Rand alThor] is surprised that [Egwene|Egwene alVere] is there and that she is going to the [Aiel Waste]. He thought she was going to [Tanchico] with [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara]. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] asks why [Rand|Rand alThor] left ''[Callandor]'' and he replies that it is in the [Prophecies of the Dragon|Karaethon Prophecies]:

She warns him that anyone can take it now, but he says he wove some particularly nasty wards around it. He finally tells [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] and [Egwene|Egwene alVere] that he is going to [Rhuidean]. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] tries to dissuade him but he is set. She thinks she will not let him go to the [Shadow|Creator] whatever it takes.
