! __Gawyn__ POV

[Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] is in the [Royal Palace] garden hours after he sent [Egwene|Egwene alVere]'s messenger back.[1] He thinks maybe [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] is right that he hates [Rand|Rand alThor] out of jealousy. He admires [Sleete] for willingly stepping aside. He finally decides that he must accept the secondary role with [Egwene|Egwene alVere] as her [Warder|Warder] and not have the lead. He goes to say goodbye to [Elayne|Elayne Trakand], but [Birgitte|Birgitte Trahelion] says she is asleep.[2] He realizes that she is probably meeting [Egwene|Egwene alVere] in the dream world which means [Egwene|Egwene alVere] is asleep and vulnerable to attack. He rushes to the [Traveling|Weaves#t] room and an [Aes Sedai] opens a gateway to the [White Tower]. The gateway vanishes just after he steps through.[3]

[Egwene|Egwene alVere], %%green [Leane|Leane Sharif]%% and the [Wise Ones|Aiel] arrive at the base of the [White Tower] where %%brown [Saerin|Saerin Asnobar]%%, %%brown [Morvrin]%% and %%white [Brendas]%% report. %%brown [Shevan]%% and %%white [Carlinya]%% are dead. %%black [Alviarin|Alviarin Freidhen]%% and others blasted through a wall with [Fire|One Power]. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] is still fighting. [Amys] sends [Brendas] out of the dream to wake the others to take them out of danger. Only [Egwene|Egwene alVere], [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara], [Leane|Leane Sharif] and [Siuan|Siuan Sanche] will remain. Per [Egwene|Egwene alVere]'s orders %%brown [Saerin|Saerin Asnobar]%% tries to leave for someplace safe but she cannot. [Bair] is skeptical, but she cannot leave either. They are trapped. They see through a window that the sky is now violet. Hopefully [Mesaana] is trapped as well.

[Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] confronts [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] in [Tar Valon]. He wants the [dreamspike] back. He goads [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] but [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] is not taken in. [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] says [Luc|Luc Mantear] hates him deeply but [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] does not.[4] [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] attacks.

[Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] runs through the [White Tower] and [Mazone] and [Celark] join him. They run to [Egwene|Egwene alVere]'s quarters and enter. There are two [Bloodknives|Seanchan (People)] there. [Mazone] goes for help while [Celark] helps [Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand]. The two assassins kill [Celark]. [Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] hears a sound in the anteroom and thinks help has come, but he sees [Mazone] dead and another assassin enters. 

! __Perrin__ POV

[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] lets the wolf in him free as he and [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] maneuver and fight. An arrow from [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] slices free the pouch where [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] had the [dreamspike] and [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] gets it. He starts to run but [Hopper] lands on him. [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] flees and [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Hopper] follow.

[Egwene|Egwene alVere] and the [Black Ajah] stalk each other in the [White Tower]. [Egwene|Egwene alVere] spots %%black [Evanellein]%% and %%black [Mestra]%% and kills [Mestra]. [Mesaana] appears and [Egwene|Egwene alVere] flees to her rooms. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] appears. She killed %%black [Notori]%% and saw %%black [Alviarin|Alviarin Freidhen]%%. They hunt some more and [Egwene|Egwene alVere] kills %%black [Sedore|Sedore Dajenna]%%. [Bair] joins them. She is far more skilled at hunting and disguise. 

! __Perrin__ POV

[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] chases [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] into the [White Tower]. He sees [Aes Sedai] fighting, recognizes [Egwene|Egwene alVere] and calls to her. She tries to bind him but he easily frees himself.[5] A woman appears and weaves [balefire|Weaves#b] but [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] wills it to miss. [Egwene|Egwene alVere] is astounded. She brings the wall down on the woman.[6] He warns [Egwene|Egwene alVere] to leave then feels pain from [Hopper].

! __Gawyn__ POV

[Gawyn|Gawyn Trakand] is growing weak from his wounds. He has an inspiration. The [Bloodknives|Seanchan (People)] can hide in shadow and there can only be shadow with light. He smashes the lantern and the room is totally black. Using all his skill he kills the three assassins. Badly wounded, he passes out beside [Egwene|Egwene alVere]'s bed.

! __Mesaana__ POV

%%black [Katerine|Katerine Alruddin]%% kneels before [Mesaana]. She stripes [Katerine|Katerine Alruddin] for failing to find the [dreamspike]. She wants the [dreamspike] as badly as she wants to control [Egwene|Egwene alVere]. She cannot imaging how the [Aes Sedai] found a [dreamspike].[7] She orders [Katerine|Katerine Alruddin] to find [Egwene|Egwene alVere] as she must know where it is. But first she places a weave on [Katerine|Katerine Alruddin].[8]

! __Perrin__ POV

[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] appears at the top of the [White Tower] where [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] holds a wounded [Hopper]. He throws [Hopper] off the tower. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] leaps after but [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] grabs him and they grapple as they fall. [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] stabs [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] in the arm but [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] breaks free. He imagines himself on the ground and catches [Hopper] but [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] fires an arrow that goes through [Hopper]'s back and [Perrin|Perrin Aybara]'s thigh. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] is weak. He manages to restore himself somewhat but still cannot fight [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran]. He senses terror. It is a nightmare. He slams into [Slayer|Isam Mandragoran] and they both fall into the nightmare.
