[Rand|Rand alThor] opens a gateway into an attic of the [Royal Palace] and he and [Min|Min Farshaw] step through. %%ot [Saidin|Said]%% makes him sick and [Lews Therin|Lews Therin Telamon] begs him to let go. [Min|Min Farshaw] has an allergy attack from all the dust. [Rand|Rand alThor] is disguised with the [Mask of Mirrors|Weaves#mi] as an ugly man. [Min|Min Farshaw] wants him to see [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] and [Aviendha] but he refuses. He wants to find [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] and [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] then leave. 

As they go down stairs they run into [Reene Harfor]. [Min|Min Farshaw] tells her that "[Nuli|Rand]" here has something for [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] that must be delivered immediately. They are surprised to learn that [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is not there. [Min|Min Farshaw] instructs [Reene Harfor] to take [Nuli|Rand] to [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara], then she runs away. As they walk through the palace, [Rand|Rand alThor] can tell there are lots of women [channeling|True Source] even though the First Maid tells him there are only five [Aes Sedai] there. [Rand|Rand alThor] wonders about the rumor of hundreds of [Aes Sedai] heading to [Caemlyn] with an army.[1] [Rand|Rand alThor] thinks of [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] and there is a flash of color in his head that resembles [Mat|Matrim Cauthon]'s face.[2]

! __Nynaeve__ POV

[Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] is giving a lesson to [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] while [Zaida|Zaida din Parede Blackwing] and six [Windfinders|Sea Folk] look on. They are [Senine din Ryal], [Shielyn|Shielyn din Sabura Night Waters], [Rainyn], [Kurin], [Caire|Caire din Gelyn Running Wave] and [Tebreille|Tebreille din Gelyn South Wind]. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] is glad that [Renaile|Renaile din Calon Blue Star] is not there. She is the worst. They sometimes use [Merilille|Merilille Ceandevin] as the subject for their lessons. [Vandene|Vandene Namelle] refuses to give any lessons now that she has [Kirstian|Kirstian Chalwin] and [Zarya|Zarya Alkaese]. [Careane|Careane Fransi] gave lessons yesterday. [Sareitha|Sareitha Tomares] was supposed to give lessons but she slipped out of the palace on urgent business.[3] [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] attacks [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] and successfully shields her. The next time, [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] slips [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara]'s shield and shields her instead. [Zaida|Zaida din Parede Blackwing] tells her to hold whereupon the other [Windfinders|Sea Folk] form a circle and [link|Linking]. [Zaida|Zaida din Parede Blackwing] then tests [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara]'s word that she cannot break the shield by threatening to have [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] turn her upside down. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] fights and, for the first time, detects a soft spot on the shield, but she cannot break free. [Zaida|Zaida din Parede Blackwing] finally believes her and has [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] release her. The lesson is over. 

As [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] leaves she runs into [Alivia]. [Alivia] says [Reanne Corly] sent her to tell [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] to join her, [Sumeko Karistovan], [Chilares Arman] and [Famelle Juarde] at dinner. She adds that they ought to be learning from her. She is a much better weapon than even the [Asha'man]. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] declines the invitation and [Alivia] leaves. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] is sure that the [Kin] invited her to dinner to lecture her on dealing with the [Windfinders|Sea Folk]. 

As she walks back to her rooms, [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] catches up to her. She begs [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] to take her to the [White Tower] as a [novice|novices]. Per [Egwene|Egwene alVere], there are only three [Sea Folk] [Aes Sedai] and they are weak.[4] [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] says that because of her family she is constantly punished to avoid any semblance of favoritism. There are five clan [Windfinders|Sea Folk] in her family. Her grandmother is [Windfinder|Sea Folk] to Clan [Rossaine|Sea Folk], her great-grandmother to Clan [Dacan|Sea Folk] and her great-grandmother's sister to Clan [Takana|Sea Folk]. [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] is apprentice to [Windfinder|Sea Folk] [Ehvon]. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] stammers a bit. [Talaan|Talaan din Gelyn] takes this for agreement to help her and runs off in delight. 

[Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] joins [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] and they go back to their rooms. [Reene Harfor] is waiting there with an ugly man. The man namedrops [Mistress Thane|Thane] of the Women's Circle and [Cenn Buie]. Taking the hint, [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] asks [Reene Harfor] to leave. The man then ripples and turns into [Rand|Rand alThor]. They ask if he is hiding. He says only until he can kill the men he is after. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] tells him that [Egwene|Egwene alVere] is now the [Amyrlin|Aes Sedai] and has an army and three hundred [Aes Sedai] with her. He asks if [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is with [Egwene|Egwene alVere], then he staggers.[5] [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] [Delves|Weaves#d] him; she can now feel two pockets of evil but they seem to be contained in a ward of %%ot [saidin|Said]%%.[6] [Rand|Rand alThor] opens his bundle and takes out the two [control statues|Control Statue]. He wants [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] to hold them for him and to help him use the [giant statues|Choedan Kal] to cleanse the taint from %%ot [saidin|Said]%%. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] agrees, but only if she and [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] go with [Rand|Rand alThor] now.
