It's nighttime in [Kinslayer;s Dagger|Kinslayers Dagger] and [Rand] and [Selene] are sleeping outside atop a bed of branches.
[Rand] wakes up, possibly hearing something, looks around and sees a campfire nearby and a cabin a bit further off.
[Rand] rises, holding his sword, and starts walking towards the cabin.
A [Fade] steps out of a boulder's shadow and starts towards [Rand], raising its arms in preparation for an attack.
[Selene] wakes up, sees the [Fade], and yells to [Rand], who then starts swordfighting the [Fade].
The [Fade] disarms [Rand], and [Rand] backs up to protect [Selene]. [Rand] [channel]s and destroys the [Fade].
[Selene] walks quickly away from [Rand], asking what did he just do and he starts to apologize.
She asks if he just [channel]ed, then asks about the fire at her inn, and he says that was an accident.
He firmly states that he hasn't gone mad.
[Selene] looks shocked.
He says that he understands, thanks her for everything, and starts to walk off.
She asks where will he go and he says that when men go mad, they kill the people they love first, so he'll go as far away as he can.
[Selene] realizes that [Rand] just said that he loves her and asks him why didn't he just tell her that he could [channel].
He didn't want her to see him as a monster.
She approaches him and tells him he's not and that what he did was just part of his nature and he shouldn't hide it.
She says she did that one time, being what he wanted to see, but then that man looked deeper and saw who she really was.
She tells [Rand] that he needs to give someone the chance to love all of him.
He says he doesn't know how much time he has (before he goes mad) and she tells him it's the same as everyone else: never enough.
She takes his hand and they walk towards the cabin.

[Rand] wakes up, possibly hearing a sound, and looks around. He notices the campfire nearby and a cabin a short distance away. He stands, gripping his sword, and starts walking toward the cabin. A [Fade] steps out from the shadow of a boulder and moves toward [Rand], raising its arms to attack. [Selene] wakes up, sees the [Fade], and calls out to [Rand]. [Rand] turns and engages the [Fade] in a swordfight. The [Fade] disarms [Rand], forcing him to back up to shield [Selene]. [Rand] then [channel]s, unleashing a burst of power that destroys the [Fade].
[Selene] steps away from [Rand], asking what he just did. [Rand] starts to apologize, but [Selene] asks if he just [channel]ed.
