There are many unusual and dangerous creatures in the Aiel Waste. Most have but a single reference.

  1. In The Shadow Rising
    1. TSR,Ch48 - Aviendha teaches Rand about the denizens of the Aiel Waste including the gara and the two-step. The gara is a lizard about two feet long with bronze and yellow scales. Though slow moving, it can bite through a boot and is poisonous enough to kill a bull. The two-step is a small brown snake of the Aiel Waste. It is so poisonous that its bite kills before the victim can take more than two steps.
    2. TSR,Ch52 - Amys warns Nynaeve that a mountain king is as deadly in the dream as it is in the waking world.
  2. In The Fires of Heaven
    1. TFoH,Ch2 - Jheran is disgusted with the spears who have succumbed to the bleakness, slinking away like stinkadders.
    2. TFoH,Ch4 - Aviendha calls Isendre a sorda. The sorda is a sly rat of the Aiel Waste. It is good for absolutely nothing.
    3. TFoH,Ch6 - Han thinks worries that in chasing the Shaido Rand's forces will be strung out like blindworms in the sun.
    4. TFoH,Ch13 - Elayne notes that Valan Luca's circus has a capar, a creature of the Aiel Waste that looks like a large, hairy boar with a pointed snout and toes with claws.
    5. TFoH,Ch21 - In Jangai Pass, Aviendha kills a bloodsnake, a large brown snake three paces long. Its bite turns the blood to jelly in minutes, but its white meat makes a good stew. That does not bother Rand nearly as much as the gara, which tastes like chicken.
  3. In Lord of Chaos
    1. LoC,Ch15 - The Wise Ones put scarlet puffers in Carlinya's dress. Later they laugh that she did not know the difference between a harmless scarlet puffer and a poisonous red adder.
    2. LoC,Ch15 - Mora, one of the most famous Wise Ones, died of a bloodsnake bite when she was three hundred years old.
    3. LoC,Ch17 - The yellowfly is almost too small to see, yet if you leave its egg in your skin you will lose an arm or a leg if you do not die.
    4. LoC,Ch52 - A motai is a grub found in the Aiel Waste. It is quite sweet and crunchy.
  4. In The Gathering Storm
    1. TGS,Ch11 - A sharadan is a creature of the Aiel Waste that crawls on its belly.
