He grew up in Emond's Field. He is a head taller than his father (Tam al'Thor). His mother was Kari al'Thor, who died when Rand was five. His best friends are Perrin and Mat.
Physical Description#
He has gray eyes and a reddish tint to his hair. (TEotW,Ch1) He is about 6'5" or 6'6" and about 235 pounds.

- At the end of the year 978 NE, Rand is born on the slopes of Dragonmount. Tam al'Thor finds the baby and takes him back to the Two Rivers.
- Tam's wife Kari al'Thor dies in 984 NE when Rand is five. (TEotW,Ch6)
- At age ten, Rand and Mat get in big trouble when Cenn Buie catches them in his apple trees. (TEotW,Ch3)
- At the annual sheep shearing, Rand, Mat and Perrin goof off with Bandry Crawe, Dav Ayellin, Elam Dowtry and Lem Thane until the mayor summons them for a story. (TEotW,Earlier)
- When they are thirteen, Rand and Mat steal a jug of apple brandy and Nynaeve switches them for it. (TSR,Ch7)
Beginning of Series#

After Two Rivers#

- Rand and the rest of the party cross the Taren River, camp for an hour, then head north for Baerlon. (TEotW,Ch12)
- Rand and the rest of the party arrive at The Stag and Lion in Baerlon where they are welcomed by Master Fitch. (TEotW,Ch13)
- Rand and the rest have hot baths and a good meal. That night Ba'alzamon visits his dreams. (TEotW,Ch14)
- Rand sleeps in then runs into Min on his way out. She tells him of her viewings. He runs into Padan Fain. He meets Mat and then confronts three Whitecloaks. They meet Thom and return to the inn. (TEotW,Ch15)
- Rand and the rest of the group meet with Nynaeve. She then has a private talk with Moiraine. She confirms to Rand that he was born outside the Two Rivers. (TEotW,Ch16)

Hunt for the Horn#

Cairhien#
- Rand, Loial and Hurin arrive at Cairhien. Rand runs into Thom. (TGH,Ch25)
- Rand gets Loial and they go to Thom's inn meeting Dena. Rand tells Thom about the Horn. (TGH,Ch26)
- Rand and Loial are attacked by Trollocs. Selene joins them and they flee to the Illuminators' chapter house where they accidentally burn the place down. Selene disappears again and Rand and Loial return to the inn. (TGH,Ch27)
- Rand gets invitations from Barthanes and Galldrian. Rand and Loial go out to the city gate again to ask about Ingtar. While they are out the Horn and ruby dagger are stolen. Rand and Loial rescue Hurin. (TGH,Ch30)
- Rand, Mat, Perrin, Verin, Loial and Ingtar go to The Great Tree. Hurin reports that the Horn is in Lord Barthanes' manor. (TGH,Ch31)
- Rand attends a party at Barthanes's manor. He is accosted by several women and talks briefly with Barthanes and with Thom. (TGH,Ch32)
- Rand, Loial and Hurin find the Waygate that Fain and the Darkfriends used, but it is blocked by Machin Shin. They collect Mat, Verin, Ingtar and Uno and return to the inn where they decide to try Stedding Tsofu. (TGH,Ch33)
Journey to Toman Head#
- Rand, Mat, Perrin, Loial, Verin, Hurin, Ingtar and the Shienarans travel to Stedding Tsofu. They are met by Erith and encounter three Maidens. (TGH,Ch35)
- Rand, Mat, Perrin, Verin, Hurin and Ingtar meet with the council of Elders. They rejoin the others and go to the Waygate, but it is also blocked by Machin Shin. (TGH,Ch36)
- The party goes to the Portal Stone. Rand channels, bringing them to Toman Head, but four months are lost. Rand experiences many visions all ending with a voice saying, "I have won again, Lews Therin." (TGH,Ch37)
Toman Head#
- Rand and the rest of the party ride across Toman Head searching for Fain's trail. They stop at a village for the night. As Rand beds down, Ba'alzamon confronts him again, commanding him to submit. (TGH,Ch41)
- Hurin, Mat and Perrin report that they found Fain's trail. It is decided that Ingtar will lead Rand, Mat, Perrin and Hurin into Falme. (TGH,Ch44)
- Ingtar, Rand, Mat, Perrin and Hurin recover the Horn of Valere and the ruby dagger. Rand kills Turak. (TGH,Ch45)
- Ingtar confesses to Rand about being a Darkfriend and sacrifices himself so the others can escape. (TGH,Ch46)
- Rand, Mat, Perrin and Hurin are trapped between the Seanchan and the Whitecloaks. Mat blows the Horn of Valere. Ba'alzamon confronts Rand and stabs him in the side while Rand stabs Ba'alzamon in the heart. (TGH,Ch47)
- Min finds Rand unconscious in a yard in Falme and moves him to a bed. Lanfear shows up and Heals Rand. She tells Min that Rand is hers. (TGH,Ch48)
- Rand wakes five days later. Min, Loial, Perrin, Moiraine and the Shienarans are taking him east from Falme. He finally accepts that he is the Dragon Reborn. (TGH,Ch49)
- Rand talks with Perrin about his plans. He knows Ba'alzamon is after him again. Upset about his arguments with Moiraine, he loses control and channels causing an earthquake. (TDR,Ch2)
- Rand sneaks back into camp avoiding everyone. (TDR,Ch3)
- Rand is only able to start a random fire during the battle with the Trollocs. His wound breaks open and Moiraine partially Heals it again. (TDR,Ch5)

Journey to Tear#
Tear#
- Rand walks the streets of Tear. (TDR,Ch51)
- Rand climbs the sheer wall of the Stone of Tear to gain entry. He follows the pull of Callandor. (TDR,Ch54)
- Rand reaches the Heart of the Stone where Be'lal confronts him. Be'lal nearly kills Rand, but Moiraine balefires him. Ba'alzamon then attacks, but Rand takes Callandor, follows him into Tel'aran'rhiod, and finally kills him. (TDR,Ch55)
- Rand strides through the Stone of Tear accompanied by a contingency of Aiel and High Lords. (TDR,Ch56)
- Rand spends most of his time in the Stone of Tear reading books, especially the Prophecies of the Dragon. (TSR,Ch6)
- Rand dreams about Elayne and Min seducing him while Egwene sadly looks on. He awakes to find Berelain in his room and she tries to seduce him. A bubble of evil causes Rand's mirror images to attack him. He survives, but Berelain flees in terror. (TSR,Ch2)
- Perrin discovers Rand and calls for Moiraine. She arrives and Heals Rand and tells him it was a bubble of evil that caused the attack. Moiraine continues to push Rand to act. (TSR,Ch3)
- Egwene and Elayne visit Rand. They try to teach him to channel. They fail, but discover that saidar gives him goose bumps. Egwene tells Rand she no longer loves him and he returns the sentiment. Egwene leaves. (TSR,Ch7)
- Elayne tells Rand that she loves him and they kiss. She leaves when a group of High Lords arrive for an audience. Rand tells Sunamon, Carleon, Tedosian and Meilan to lower taxes and to negotiate with Mayene to send grain to Illian. (TSR,Ch8)
- Rand uses advice from Elayne and information from Thom to help him deal with the High Lords. Lanfear confronts him and reveals her true identity. A Gray Man attacks. (TSR,Ch9)
- Rand tries to rally the troops against the Shadowspawn attack. After some futile effort, Lanfear appears again and tells him to get Callandor. He uses Callandor to destroy the entire Shadowspawn army, then in a manic mood he tries to Heal a dead child. He agrees to announce his plans the next day. (TSR,Ch10)
- Perrin tells Rand about the rumor of Whitecloaks in the Two Rivers after the Dragon Reborn and a Darkfriend with yellow eyes. He tells Rand that he is going home to deal with them. (TSR,Ch13)
- Rand enters the twisted red doorway and gets three answers from the Aelfinn. He uses his One Power sword to escape. (TSR,Ch15)
- Rand makes his entrance into the Heart of the Stone accompanied by a hundred Aiel. He orders several of the High Lords to restore order in Cairhien, then he plunges Callandor into the floor. (TSR,Ch21)

Aiel Waste#
- On Chaendaer, Rand and his party are greeted by Wise Ones Amys, Bair, Melaine and Seana. Couladin tries to attack Rand, but the Wise Ones stop him. Rand asks permission to go to Rhuidean and the Wise Ones grant it. He and Mat leave. (TSR,Ch23)
- Rand and Mat go to the center of Rhuidean and find Avendesora, the glass columns, and the control statues. Rand enters the glass columns. (TSR,Ch24)
- Rand sees the history of the Aiel. (TSR,Ch25)
- Rand sees more history of the Aiel and he sees Muradin die. He finds Mat hanging by his neck and resuscitates him, and then they leave Rhuidean. (TSR,Ch26)
- Rand and Mat return from Rhuidean at dawn. Rand shows the dragon marks and Bair proclaims him as the Car'a'carn. (TSR,Ch34)
- Rand and Mat ride with Rhuarc on the journey from Chaendaer to Imre Stand. Aviendha walks beside Rand and lectures him. When they meet the peddlers, Rand thinks Kadere is dangerous. (TSR,Ch36)
- Rand and the others arrive at Imre Stand and find carnage. Rand practices swords with Lan and spears with Rhuarc. Later, they are attacked by Trollocs. (TSR,Ch37)
- Aviendha continues to teach Rand on the trip to Cold Rocks Hold. Jasin Natael questions him at length about being the Dragon Reborn. (TSR,Ch48)
- When Rand's party arrives at Cold Rocks Hold, Lian welcomes Rhuarc, Heirn and Rand, but spurns Couladin. Lian gives Rhuarc and Rand news of the clan chiefs gathering at Alcair Dal. (TSR,Ch49)
- Rand gives Aviendha a bracelet and she accidentally discloses that the Wise Ones are spying on his dreams. That night he dreams of Elayne, Min and Aviendha. Lanfear enters his dream and bites him. He awakes, senses evil, and joins the fight against the Trollocs and Draghkar. When he learns that the Shaido broke camp, he decides to leave for Alcair Dal immediately. (TSR,Ch50)
- Rand joins the clan chiefs on the speaking ledge at Alcair Dal. He and Couladin both show their marks, but he exposes Couladin as a liar and is proclaimed the Car'a'carn. Lanfear arrives and tells him Asmodean is on his way to Rhuidean. (TSR,Ch57)
- In Rhuidean, Rand struggles with Asmodean for the control statue and succeeds in severing him from the Dark One. Lanfear partially shields Asmodean, and Rand takes him back to Alcair Dal to use as his teacher. (TSR,Ch58)
- Rand returns to Rhuidean with all the Aiel who have joined him. He meets with the clan chiefs to talk about the Shaido and the other clans. Moiraine and Egwene visit Rand and Moiraine shows him the seal that she found. (TFoH,Ch2)

- Rand returns to the Roof of the Maidens. Aviendha brings him some blankets and gives him a belt buckle made from her spears. Isendre tries to bring him some wine, but Aviendha chases her off. (TFoH,Ch4)
- Three Darkhound attack Rand. He has to resort to balefire to get rid of them. He saves Mat from a similar attack, then checks on Asmodean. Back in his room, Lanfear pays a call. Seeing the control statues, she again tempts him to challenge the Dark One and the Creator with her. (TFoH,Ch6)
- Rand prepares to leave Rhuidean for Jangai Pass. (TFoH,Ch7)

Journey to Cairhien#
- Rand leads the Aiel into Jangai Pass where they find the town of Taien devastated. (TFoH,Ch20)
- They make camp near the town. Rand sets wards around the camp to detect Shadowspawn. Aviendha gives Rand King Laman's sword. He accepts only the blade giving the jewels back to her. (TFoH,Ch21)
- The wards alarm. Rand and Aviendha go outside where they are attacked by Draghkar. After talking with Moiraine and the Wise Ones, Rand goes to see Asmodean and they discuss who orchestrated the attack. (TFoH,Ch22)
- Rand and the Aiel enter Cairhien. He tells the clan chiefs that they can take their fifth, but no food. He will hang any man who disobeys. (TFoH,Ch23)
- At the town of Eianrod, young nobles from Cairhien find Rand and report the Shaido attacking the city. Rand says he will be there with the Aiel in seven days. (TFoH,Ch30)
- Back in his rooms, Rand finds Aviendha naked. She Travels to the opposite side of the world and he follows. He saves her from freezing and they make love. (TFoH,Ch31)
- Rand discovers that they are in Seanchan. They return through the gateway with half a spear as a souvenir. Rand orders Asmodean to teach him invisibility and avoiding a woman's channeling. (TFoH,Ch32)
Cairhien#
- Rand surveys his camp outside Cairhien. He then goes to the tower to look through Kin Tovere's telescopes. (TFoH,Ch41)
- Rand sends Lan to determine how much military knowledge Mat really has. Afterwards, he meets with High Lord Weiramon and the clan chiefs to finalize their battle plans. (TFoH,Ch42)
- Aviendha and Egwene join Rand on the tower. They call down lightning on the Shaido while he blasts the hilltops with Fire. (TFoH,Ch43)
- As the day passes, Rand becomes fatigued. Sammael attacks, destroying his tower with lightning. Rand rides closer to the battle. When the battle is over, Rand collapses from fatigue. (TFoH,Ch44)
- Rand wakes the next morning and hears the details of his victory. Asmodean tells him about the Tairen and Cairhienin nobles trying to visit him. (TFoH,Ch45)
- Rand, accompanied by Aviendha, Asmodean and the Maidens, makes a triumphal entry into Cairhien and accepts oaths of fealty from the Tairen and Cairhienin nobles. (TFoH,Ch46)
- In the Sun Palace Rand meets with the nobles. He then meets with Moiraine, Egwene and Aviendha who bring him letters from Elaida and Alviarin. Mat arrives with news that Morgase is dead. Rand intends to go after Rahvin immediately. (TFoH,Ch51)
- Rand meets with the clan chiefs and Wise Ones late into the night. The next morning Moiraine leads Rand, Mat, Asmodean, Aviendha, Egwene and Lan to the docks of Cairhien. Lanfear attacks nearly killing Rand, Egwene and Aviendha. (TFoH,Ch52)
- After Lanfear's attack he blames himself for Moiraine's death. He reads Moiraine's letter taking it to heart. Sulin confronts him. After an argument, he agrees to let Maidens join the assault on Rahvin. (TFoH,Ch53)

- Accompanied by an Aiel escort, Rand takes the Ogier to Shadar Logoth. Elder Haman shows him the Waygate and he traps it. He returns to Caemlyn after dropping of the Ogier in the Two Rivers. (LoC,Ch21)
- Rand watches the Saldaean cavalry practice. Back in Caemlyn, some Whitecloaks try to assassinate him. In the Royal Palace, Elenia gives him a lesson in Andoran history. He is relieved to learn that he is not related to Elayne. He goes back to Cairhien without Aviendha. (LoC,Ch26)
- Rand meets with Egwene in the Sun Palace, then he meets with Coiren, Galina and Nesune. (LoC,Ch27)
- Rand returns to Caemlyn. He gets letters from the Wavemistresses and Queen Alliandre. A Gray Man attacks him but Mazrim Taim arrives and kills him. (LoC,Ch28)
- In Tel'aran'rhiod, Rand overhears the Salidar Aes Sedai summon Egwene to Salidar and he learns the location of the town. (LoC,Ch32)

- Rand accepts a visit from Demira and the other Aes Sedai. He does not understand their change of attitude and refuses to change his rules. When he learns that they are now thirteen, he sends and angry letter to Merana and Travels to Cairhien with Min, Perrin, Faile, Loial and a bunch of Maidens. (LoC,Ch49)
- Rand spends ten days in the Sun Palace managing affairs. He and Min visit Herid Fel who seems to have learned something about the seals. Rand finally agrees to another audience with Coiren and her embassy. (LoC,Ch50)
- The White Tower embassy kidnaps Rand and holds him in Lady Arilyn's palace. (LoC,Ch51)
- Rand goes berserk and kills two Warder when he sees that Min is also a prisoner. The Aes Sedai begin beating him twice a day. Rand talks with Lews Therin and Lews Therin teaches him how to undo the tied off weave of his shield. The Aes Sedai show Rand to Sevanna and he thinks she wants to kill him. (LoC,Ch53)
- When Rand feels three of the points of his shield tied off, he unknots them and crushes the shield. He blows up the box and finds Min, then he begins knocking out and shielding the Aes Sedai. When the Asha'man arrive and the camp is secure, Rand orders Taim to destroy the Shaido. When the Salidar Aes Sedai embassy approaches, he orders them to kneel and swear fealty to him. (LoC,Ch55)
- The day after Rand is freed at Dumai's Wells, he searches among the dead to make sure he counted all the Maidens who died. After considerable argument, he assigns the captured Aes Sedai to the Wise Ones. He selects Dashiva to accompany him back to Cairhien. (ACoS,Ch2)
- Northeast of Cairhien, he sends the Wise Ones with the Aes Sedai prisoners back to the tents. They march to Cairhien. (ACoS,Ch3)

He sneaks in because he does not want to risk running into Elayne or Aviendha. He meets with Bashere and Bael and learns that Dyelin is holding the Lion Throne for Elayne. He leaves one Asha'man in Caemlyn and plans to take the other two to the army in Tear as communication links. He will tell the army to begin marching to attack Illian. (ACoS,Ch7)
- His third trip of the night is to Rhuidean to retrieve the control statue ter'angreal. (ACoS,Ch33)
- Rand discusses with Janwin, Mandelain and Indirian how to deal with the Shaido. He sends a letter to Berelain sending her back to Mayene, but she is angry and confronts him. Cadsuane makes her entrance and is condescending to Rand angering him. Idrien tells Rand that Herid Fel was murdered. (ACoS,Ch18)
- Min tells Rand that Colavaere hanged herself. Rand tells her that Herid Fel was murdered. They have sex. (ACoS,Ch19)
- Rand and Perrin have a fight about the treatment of the captured Aes Sedai. Rand tells Perrin that he never wants to see him again and to get out of Cairhien. (ACoS,Ch27)

- Rand awakens two days later to find Jonan Adley returned. He secretly Travels with the Asha'man to the Saldaean camp to commence the strike on Sammael in Illian. They Travel to Illian and spring Sammael's wards. After several hours Sammael returns and lures Rand into following him to Shadar Logoth. Rand is saved by the Wanderer and kills Liah. After Mashadar apparently kills Sammael he returns to Illian where his is given the laurel crown. (ACoS,Ch41)
- In eastern Illian, Rand is accompanied by numerous nobles of Illian, Tear and Cairhien. He confronts a group of Lord Brend's troops telling them to lay down their arms or join him. When Rand lets go of saidin he gets dizzy and sees double. This is a recent problem. (TPoD,Ch13)
- Back in camp, Torval brings a report from Taim on recruiting. Morr reports that the Seanchan will move on Illian. Rand sends Torval for more Asha'man. Rand thinks he knows how to cleanse saidin. He sends Narishma for Callandor. (TPoD,Ch14)
- When the Asha'man arrive, Rand and his army Travel to Illian to pick up more troops, then Travel to the western border of Illian. Rand sends the Asha'man to gather more nobles. (TPoD,Ch21)

- Rand inspects the Blight border with Bashere and Ituralde then returns to the manor house. Semirhage puts the Domination Band on him. When her torture does not affect him, she forces him to strangle Min. Something snaps in Rand and the Dark One offers him the True Power. Rand accepts it and uses it to destroy the Domination Band and then balefire Semirhage and Elza. (TGS,Ch22)
- Rand now has a dark aura about him and he is completely emotionless. He bans Cadsuane from his sight for failing to keep the sad bracelets safe. (TGS,Ch23)

- Rand walks the Stone of Tear for hours then finds Tam waiting in his rooms. They have a father and son talk, but Rand explodes in rage when he learns that Cadsuane was involved and nearly kills Tam. He leaves for Ebou Dar to destroy the Seanchan. (TGS,Ch47)

- Rand works on his document for tomorrow. Since Dragonmount, he no longer gets sick seizing saidin. He can feel that the three women nearby are up to something. He opens the tent flap to find Aviendha and the Maidens nearby begin shouting insults. She says that she, Min and Elayne are all now first-sisters. He says he does not want them to experience his pain but Aviendha says they demand it. She is now a Wise One. Rand wanted to get some sleep tonight but it looks like that will not happen. He takes her into the tent as the Maidens shout louder. (AMoL,Ch3)
- Rand is pulled into Moridin's dreamshard. Rand calls him Elan. Moridin tells Rand that Lanfear is now Cyndane. Moridin continues to taunt Rand, but Rand says he is finished with Moridin. It is now between him and the Dark One. He exercises his will and sunlight comes through the clouds. Moridin thinks it is a trick like he used on Weiramon. Rand exerts his will more. The clouds disappear and the ground blooms with growth. Moridin recoils in shock then disappears. Rand then lets the transformation go and returns to his body for sleep.(AMoL,Ch4)
- Rand wakes up, opens his tent flaps and sees Katerin guarding his tent. He asks her if his clerks have returned from Tear and when she responds that they have, he tells her to send word to the other rulers that he'll meet them in one hour. She then leaves to relay his command. (AMoL,Ch5)
- Rand turns around to find Aviendha standing naked in the tent. He takes the nearby barrel of water and turns it into a warm, soapy shower for them both and then rinses them both off. She tells him that she will ask a boon of him today. (AMoL,Ch5)
- Rand introduces the Dragon's Peace and there is much discussion among all of the leaders. The other leaders focus on the Dragon's Peace while Egwene and Rand continue to talk about the seals. (AMoL,Ch5)
- Rand agrees to 1) get the Seanchan to sign the Dragon's Peace or the document is void, 2) Aviendha's request to include the Aiel and 3) Perrin's idea of making the Aiel the enforcers of the peace and mediators of disputes. (AMoL,Ch6)
- Rand walks out of the tent, into the new grove, and disappears. (AMoL,Ch7)
- Rand is in Elayne's tent, looking at the battle maps on a table. He is impressed with the plans. He feels a chill and knows a woman is channeling nearby. He looks up and sees Elayne standing in the tent doorway. His unexpected presence startled her. He kneels before her and touches her belly, telling her he didn't know about her being pregnant until the night before the meeting. They then talk about tactics for a few hours and then about his experience on top of Dragonmount. He explains that he had been too caught up in strength that he almost lost the ability to care and that for him to win, he must care. Her tea goes bad and he holds it for a moment and it tastes great again. He explains that the Pattern is balance, so with the Dark One doing bad things, the Pattern works through him to do good things. Rand then gives Elayne a Seed. (AMoL,Ch9)
